Unstuck Your People from Underachievement
Employees didn’t deliver. Leaders failed to get strategies executed. Managers could not get things done. And it seemed many of them, though they appeared to be very motivated and passionate, were underachievers.
These are some of the observations I get from company executives about their people.
They have good people. But almost always, their people produce less than satisfactory results. This is why, out of desperation, corporate managers get the best motivational speakers in town.
Companies want to get everyone to get motivated and they badly need speakers who can miraculously turn things around. Year after year, they allocate money for motivational speakers in the hope that they’ll finally see some improvements.
Until all speeches sound similar and titles look predictable:
- Work Smarter, Not Harder
- Big Dreams, Bigger Heart.
- Unlimited Motivation.
- The Power of Resilience.
- The Superpower of Positive Thinking.
- Personal Branding.
- Financial Freedom.
These are believed to be keys to success. Managers have good intentions for hiring motivational speakers. They’re stuck and they want to get out.
You need solutions more potent than motivational speeches.
If you were like my clients, you are here because you are looking for what is best for your organization.
You know that positive mental attitude can help but will not get you very far. After an excellent and dynamic speech delivery, highly motivated employees still have no clue on what to do next.
If you were like my clients, you want your personal development program to encourage the adaption of winning behaviors. Winning behaviors are levers to achieve personal and business goals.
You want behavioral change that sticks.
You want impact you can optimize and scale.
You want employees to develop personal sense of urgency and accountability.
You want employees to gain confidence and competence to achieve their big hairy audacious goals.
A personal development speaker can help you improve performance.
Speeches can be delivered in 45 minutes to two hours. These speeches can be very engaging, filled with inspiring stories that encourage employees to achieve corporate goals by doing something different, something better, something that challenges the status quo.
A personal development speaker can do any or all of these. We have hundreds of excellent speakers in the Philippines.
You only need to do it wiser and more prudent, not just different, this year.
Inviting a speaker to your organization – even the celebrated ones – is not enough.
A speech is but a seed. You have to prepare and fertilize the soil before you plant it. Then after planting it, you must water it, give it full sun, and take care of it.
Because it is not the speech nor the speaker that develops the person.
You and your employees, by observing principles and embracing new disciplines, determine the speed of personal growth development.
Jef Menguin Can Mentor Your People
Before you invite me or another personal development speaker, be clear about results, actions, engagement, and accountability.
Let me explain.
When your intention is to improve performance (from X to Y by when), it is best that you will be able to answer the following questions.
What single most important results do we want to achieve and by when?
- Increase sales by 30% after six months.
- Improve customer satisfaction by 20% in two months.
- Double the number of presentations to clients in six months.
- Reduce scraps by half in 15 days.
Know precisely what you really want. To say that you just want your people to be motivated is an indication that you are not really clear on what you want.
What vital behaviors you need people to learn, apply, and master so you will get your desired results?
Whatever your personal development speaker must talk about, it must be all about these vital behaviors. A talk delivered somewhere to a different audience may not be that useful to your group.
A speech that advise you to have teamwork isn’t helpful too for it speaks of quality, not action.
A speech that advise you to reach your goal isn’t helpful too for it only restate the obvious and does not really tell you how to.
How can we increase engagement so that our people turn new behaviors into habits so we can sustain impact of change?
If you are a manager, it is your responsibility to see to it that people are engage.
The personal development speaker is no longer around to remind your people, to goad them, or push them. This is your ballgame.
If you don’t know what you’ll do after your speaker delivered the speech, you are most likely to waste money and opportunity.
This is where your leadership is expected.
How can we make people be accountable to their results?
A speaker may speak about personal accountability. Listening to speakers about accountability does not make everyone accountable.
Accountability must become part of your operating system. You have to translate it to specific actions that demonstrate accountability.
But some speakers won’t tell you these things.
It seems that our role isn’t that significant after all for they already have canned speeches you only need to buy.
I am telling you the truth. A personal development speaker is just a reinforcement, not a miracle worker.
If you don’t have a concrete system on how to execute your strategy, a motivational/personal development speaker will only give false hopes.
I want you to be successful. And this is why I am telling you this. So, now that you know I can help you.
Below are some of the personal development topics that people love to hear. I will describe each for you.
Dream, Believe, Dare and Do! Reinvent your future. Map your own destiny. I know that it is more difficult for most people to achieve anything significant. There are very few lucky ones who happen to be in the right place at the right time.
Many of us have accepted our fate. They stopped trying. They quit dreaming. They don’t want to fail so they won’t start anything.
You don’t deserve a mediocre life. Dare, dream, and do are simple steps that can bring you to your most inspired life.
02: MAKE ACHIEVEMENT YOUR HABIT
Be the master of your habits. Most people are slave to habits that they find themselves helpless and unable to change anything. I believe you can cultivate achieve things that matter in your life when you make achievement a habit.
Our standards of achievement may differ. Your actions may lead you to greater heights that I and other achievers have reached. You may need to form habits that I have not thought and developed.
The habits that I will share with you may serve as your jump start. Everyone in the organization will surely benefit from the opportunities of making achievement a habit.
Accelerate personal development.
Let us collaborate.
I have delivered many speeches for the last ten years. The themes are common: leadership, teamwork, personal development, innovation, and entrepreneurship. There are speeches that people want me to deliver again and again.
And there are speeches I am just too glad to deliver.
Personal development is something I can easily talk about. That’s because I am both the subject and the scientist of my own personal development.
