Vico Sotto is good news for Philippine politics. He has proven that the real measure of leadership is in crisis. He announced that the local government of Pasig City is purchasing 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine.
Some LGU leaders also took the initiative to purchase doses of AstraZeneca vaccines. They are very much unlike our national leaders who are still waiting for the more expensive and less effective vaccine from China.
He and the other LGU leaders are far from others who do not keep their promises. Rodrigo Duterte, for example, promised that he’ll solve the traffic problem in 3 to 6 months. After four years, he said that not even Superman can solve the problem.
What’s good about Sotto’s announcement is that he is transparent about the purchase amount. Transparency is key to being trusted. I hope more and more of our leaders will follow this young mayor’s lead.
