One small step you can do today is to write your personal vision statement. I will tell you why it is good for your leadership and I will give examples of personal vision statements to inspire you.
I understand when many employees do not know their organization’s vision statements. It is likely that the leadership failed to sell it to them. That’s not good of course. Every employee needs to know the strategic direction of an organization to truly commit to it.
But we can always start with our personal vision statements. And perhaps, you can encourage your employees too. Doing so may help them align their personal dreams with the ambitions of your organization.
What is a personal vision statement?
A personal vision statement is a declaration of a person’s aspirations and long-term goals for their life. It can serve as a guide for making decisions, setting priorities, and staying focused on what matters most to them.
Your vision statement is unique to you.
You can write it in one sentence, or a group of sentences. I recommend that you write your personal vision statements using descriptive words.
Why is it important?
A personal vision statement helps you create a roadmap for your life, guiding your decisions and actions toward a purposeful and fulfilling future.
Here are some ways a personal vision statement can help leaders like you.
It provides direction and purpose. Personal vision statements clarify what you want to achieve in your life and the direction you want to take. Then, it helps you stay focused on your goals and avoid distractions that may lead you away from your desired path.
It helps with decision-making. When faced with important decisions, a personal vision statement can help you evaluate your choices and determine which option is most aligned with your values and long-term goals.
It motivates and inspires. A personal vision statement can serve as a source of motivation and inspiration, reminding you of your aspirations and the impact you want to make in the world.
It builds self-awareness. Creating it requires self-reflection and introspection, which can help you better understand your strengths, weaknesses, values, and passions.
It increases personal accountability. It can help you stay accountable to yourself and your goals. By putting your vision in writing, you commit yourself to work towards achieving it.

Write your personal vision statement.
Your personal vision statement should be unique and reflect your values, passions, and goals.
