How can one be a good follower?

You can find many books on becoming a good leader, but very few on becoming a good follower. That's most people think that it is easier to become a follower. If you are not the leader, you are the follower.

That's not right. A good follower acts on his own accord. He does not have to be told what to do. That separates him from an enslaved person. Consider being a follower a role one has to play to achieve common objectives. One holds a leadership role, and the followers take on different roles. Another way to look at it is that a good follower takes his role seriously, and that discipline makes him a leader to himself.

Good leaders are good followers because they lead by example. That means they hold themselves accountable to the people.
